How to connect Mentor (InfoMentor) to Ohana Wall

Mentor reaches the family calendar in two ways. The school calendar and homework come through a calendar link that updates itself. The timetable comes from a screenshot that Ohana Wall reads with AI. Both can be done on a phone and take about five minutes per child.

Two paths, one calendar

The calendar link is an address starting with webcal:// or https:// that gives read access to the child's calendar in Mentor: holidays, staff days, school events and the homework teachers enter. Ohana Wall reads it every 15 minutes and shows everything on the family calendar, labelled with the right child.

The timetable is not in the link. You take a screenshot of it in Mentor. Ohana Wall reads the timetable with AI, shows you the lessons to check, and adds them as recurring weekly lessons once you approve. You do this once a term, or whenever the timetable changes.

The steps

  1. Step 1

    Sign in to Mentor

Open infomentor.is in a browser and choose Innskráning (sign in), or open the Mentor app. Sign in as a guardian the way you normally do, with electronic ID or a username.

Good to know: The link is easiest to copy in a browser, on the phone too. If you can't find it in the app, open Mentor in the browser instead.

  2. Step 2

Pick the child and open the calendar

If you have more than one child in Mentor, select the child at the top of the page. The calendar link belongs to the child that is selected.

Tap Dagatal (calendar). It shows the school calendar and the homework teachers have entered.

    What to look for
    Dagatal
  3. Step 3

    Copy the calendar link

In the top-right corner of the calendar there is a small icon for subscribing to the calendar (syncing it to your own). Tap it.

You are offered a calendar link (iCal). Copy it: on a computer right-click and Copy link, on a phone press and hold the link and choose Copy. It starts with webcal:// or https://.

    What to look for
    webcal://…https://…

Good to know: Don't open the link in your phone calendar, that sends it there instead of to the wall. You want to copy the link text.

  4. Step 4

Paste the link into Ohana Wall

During setup: under Fill your calendar, choose Mentor, pick the child, paste the link and tap Connect.

After setup: open Settings, find Calendar feeds and the child, tap Add calendar feed, name it Mentor, paste the link and tap Add feed. The first sync runs within 15 minutes.

    What to look for
Settings → Calendar feedsAdd calendar feedAdd feed
  5. Step 5

Take a screenshot of the timetable

In Mentor, open the child's timetable (Stundaskrá) so the whole week is on screen and take a screenshot. On a phone: side button and volume up together on iPhone, side button and volume down on Android. On a computer you can also save the page as a PDF.

    What to look for
    Stundaskrá

Good to know: A clear screenshot of the whole week reads best. If the timetable is long, take two; you can add more than one image in the next step.

  6. Step 6

Let Ohana Wall read it, then approve

During setup: choose Photo of a timetable. After setup: open the calendar in Ohana Wall, tap + to create an event and choose From photo, PDF or text.

Pick the screenshot and the child the timetable belongs to. The AI reads the lessons and shows you a list: day, time, subject. Check it, fix anything that needs fixing and add the lessons. They appear as recurring weekly lessons on the calendar.

Good to know: Repeat steps 2 to 6 for each child. Each child gets their own colour on the calendar.

What shows up on the wall

The school calendar (holidays, staff days, parent meetings, events) and the homework teachers enter arrive through the link and refresh every 15 minutes. Due dates hang on the wall where everyone sees them.

The timetable appears as weekly lessons in the child's colour. The day view lists every lesson of the day, so the kids can read it themselves. The week view folds the timetable into a tidy lesson list so the week doesn't drown in lessons. When a new term starts or the timetable changes, take a new screenshot.

If something gets stuck

“That link didn't work”

The link has to start with webcal:// or https://. Make sure it was copied whole and that no stray space came along. Try copying it from Mentor again. If the link starts with https://minn.infomentor.is, that is the address of the Mentor page from the browser, not the calendar link. The right link comes from the subscribe icon in the top-right corner of Dagatal, see step 3.

The link is connected but marked “No events”

The connection works but the calendar is empty right now. That is common at the start of the school year, or when a school enters little into the calendar. Check that the right child was selected in Mentor when you copied the link.

I can't find the subscribe icon

Try opening Mentor in a browser on a computer instead of the app, open Dagatal and look at the top-right corner of the calendar itself. If the icon is nowhere to be found, the school may have disabled calendar subscriptions. Ask the school or InfoMentor support.

The timetable didn't come with the link

Correct, it isn't part of the calendar link. The timetable goes in from a screenshot that Ohana Wall reads, see steps 5 and 6.

The AI read a lesson wrong

In the review list you can change the day, time and name of each lesson before approving, and drop anything that doesn't belong. Afterwards you edit individual lessons directly on the calendar. A clearer screenshot of the whole week, or a PDF from a computer, reads better.

Events I see in the Mentor app are missing

The wall shows what the school enters into the calendar in Mentor. Assignments or messages that only live in other parts of Mentor, such as Verkefni or Upplýsingaveita, are not part of the calendar link.

Can I see homework separately?

Homework that teachers enter into the calendar appears on the calendar with its due dates. A dedicated homework tile is in testing and will open to more families later.
